Normally the group aims to hold five excursions each year, with one in each of the months of April, May, June, July and September. Typically three will be local day excursions, one a weekend trip somewhere in the UK, while the September trip is often a week in more exotic localities. Such week-long trips in the past have been to Nova Scotia, Northumberland, Northern and Southern Ireland and each of the Greek islands of Syros and Naxos.
However, the position of field secretary has been vacant for the recent past and so it has not been possible to run the normal pattern of excursions. A volunteer is urgently needed in order that the normal excursions can be re-instated – contact the chairman, Doug Robinson if you are interested in taking on this position.
For the present year we hope to be able to offer two local field trips in April and June, and possibly a longer trip in September. For other months members can take advantage of a reciprocal arrangement with the Bath Geological Society, whereby members can attend either group’s field trips. The Bath group runs excursions in February, March, May, July, September and November. Details of the Bath organised trips are on the Bath Geological Society website and listed below starting with 'Bath Geol Soc'.
